Up, Up and Away With AI

Few pop culture icons are as recognizable and widespread as Superman.

He not only represents the virtues we look for in a superhero he shows a human side that most of us can relate to.

He has spawned movies, cartoons, and television series to continually make him relevant and loved. When we see that symbolic “S” and see the colors even the youngest of us know who he is.

Look Up in The Sky to the Beginning

Created in 1938 by the writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, the superhero known as the Man of Steel has been a symbol of truth, justice, and the American way for over 80 years.

Siegel and Shuster dreamed up Superman as a powerful champion of the oppressed, giving him abilities far beyond those of mortal men.

Superman's origin story casts him as the infant survivor of the doomed planet Krypton, rocketed to Earth by his parents. Raised as Clark Kent by kind farmers in the heartland of Kansas, he embodied classic American values of hard work, humility, and doing the right thing.

Once old enough, Clark and his alter-ego move from Smallville to Metropolis to fight the good fight and save the world from both internal and external threats. Bringing about new adventures for the adult Superman and spin off cartoon for Superboy and his equally powerful pup, Krypto. Today, Superman and the love of his life, Lois Lane, have children to carry on his legacy to the next generation.

A Code That Flies Superman Above Others

At his core, Superman adheres to a strict moral code.

He feels a moral obligation when he uses his incredible abilities, like superhuman strength, flight, x-ray vision, and more. His ultimate goal is to use these powers and help those in need and battle injustice wherever he finds it.

While early on abilities were added as needed and Superman instantly mastered them, but lately the stories revolve around him learning to harness these powers with interesting results as he learns. This is allowing him to relate more to his audience.

Overall, Superman cannot tolerate bullying or oppression of the innocent.

This uncompromising set of ethics resonated with readers and audiences from the very beginning.

His Stories Are Not Plain

Over the decades, Superman has been depicted in countless comics, movies, TV shows, and other media. Some of the most iconic portrayals include:

In the 1940’s, his comics were adapted for shorts in the movie theater bringing him to life through animation.

With the explosion of television in the 1950s, The Man of Steel came to our sets with George Reeves' beloved performance in the Adventures of Superman.

The Adventures of Superboy was an animated series that aired in the late 1960s that featured a young Clark evading class to save the day.

But in 1978 Superman came to the big screen in a big way. Christopher Reeve starred in the blockbuster film and its sequels that ran -making turn in the 1978 Superman film and its sequels ran through 1987 with the title character battling various villains and situations. Who doesn’t love the campiness of Terence Stamp as Zod.

In the 1990s we saw the return of Clark and this time his main squeeze Lois as the TV show Lois and Clark, The New Adventures of Superman starring Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher in a show that explores the relationship between cartoons favorite couple. The show featured a twist though, where up to this point Clark was the disguise for Superman, in the show Superman was the disguise.  Current TV series like Superman & Lois explore Superman's family life and the process of raising children.

More recently films like Superman Returns and the DC Extended Universe movies Batman v Superman and Justice League featuring Henry Cavill have returned Superman to the big screen once again, this time focusing on the dilemma of Superman’s abilities versus his place in the world and with those closest to him.

In 2025, the next chapter will appear as a new Superman, David Corenswet, wears the red and blue of our favorite superhero.

No, It's Superman and AI

Just as Superman uses his extraordinary abilities to protect humanity, Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be an equally powerful force for good that helps small businesses gain a competitive advantage.
